San Francisco Bay Area

You’ll probably end up leaving your heart in San Francisco. Ranked as one of the greatest cities in the world for many things, including five-star dining, a happening theater scene, and its home to the LGBT History Museum. Not to mention the world famous Castro district. San Francisco is definitely the hub of nightlife in the Bay area.
Now, beyond the fifty-square-mile city, in the surrounding Bay Area, there’s so much more to explore, including Silicon Valley’s innovations, the Napa Valley’s vineyards, and Berkeley’s free spirit.
San Francisco’s Union Square is full of department stores, and almost every retail chain you can think of, and it’s not all the city has to offer. Antiques, art, and unique boutiques are in other neighborhoods as well. Head east to Walnut Creek to find many of the same retailers with fewer people and more parking. Silicon Valley’s Santana Row and Stanford Shopping Center are two other favorites as are the many downtown retail districts throughout the Bay area.
Don’t forget The Bay Area beaches. They stretch from the north-reach peninsula of the Point Reyes National Seashore to the famed big-break surf beaches just south of Santa Cruz. In between are beach towns, national recreation areas, and the urban beaches of San Francisco. There are plenty of hiking trails and places to catch a glimpse of sea lions, pelicans, and other wildlife.

Central California

In this region of California, you”ll find the perfect balance between urban and rural. Artist enclaves in Carmel and Big Sur, celebrity residents, world-class resorts, an emerging wine region and a castle are part of the attraction, yet the atmosphere is relaxed and casual as you make your way along scenic Highway One from Monterey to Santa Barbara.

The scenic Highway One runs along the Central Coast, dividing the region’s options for outdoor activities roughly in two: ocean on one side, mountains on the other. Game refuges, land reserves, state parks and beaches provide lots of great opportunities for hiking, from the redwood forests near Monterey to the sand dunes of Pismo Beach.

Los Angeles Metro Area

It could take a full week just to visit even those areas with the greatest numbers of gay-popular businesses and residential blocks, including West Hollywood, Silver Lake, Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Westwood, and even the increasingly trendy downtown. The center of America’s entertainment industry has a ton of great restaurants, hotels, and bars, and of course Universal Studios.
