Travel Tips

So you've done your research, found your best gay destination, got the best deal possible and booked it. You are now ready for your best Gay vacation ever!

To better ensure that your travel experience remains this way, here are some travel tips you might want to consider:

You should always carry a copy of your passport, your itinerary, your hotel, your tour reservations or anything else you need. when you travel. It is just as important to keep the copies in a safe place, other than your bags. In the event your bags are lost or stolen. you'll still have a copy of them. Most important you"ll have a copy of your passport. An extra precaution would be to take a photo of them with your smart phone. Plus, if you lose them, you've still got all the info. But it is recommended to to have both, in case you lose your smartphone or it is stolen. You can be as creative as you want to be with your hiding place. i.e.- Your back pocket or your socks.
When it comes to Packing: less is better. Your best bet is to travel with just hand-luggage. Take less and you’ll travel cheaper, faster and easier. Also, no chance of lost luggage.
So if you can't attain the one luggage rule (most of us can't), then you should roll your clothing. You"ll never fold again.
Take a photo of your luggage, preferably with you in the shot and at the beginning of your trip. This way if they get lost, you can show the picture and make it easier to recover your luggage.
Take an extra, minimalist outfit in your carry-on. Just in case your luggage is lost.
Always pack zip-lock bags. They are ideal for packing things tighter, separating wet from dry and managing small items like batteries. Pack a few bags in a variety of sizes.
Never wear flip flops on a plane, in the unlikely event of an emergency, it’s best to have a good set of sturdy shoes that will protect your feet from heat or sharp objects.
Hooded tops make excellent travel garments. In case you might want to retreat from the world of noise and light when you want to sleep on a flight, airport seat, bus or train.
Do away with bringing loads of money on your trips and simply pack your debit card. ATM machines are all over the place in major cities/destinations and work the same way as they do here in America. Carry as little cash as possible. ATM machines offer better exchange rates than the airport or your hotel. Obviously you don't want to be walking the streets with nothing in your wallet, so always bring a little to exchange at the airport and use your plastic the rest of the way. Remember it's much easier to replace a lost debit card than it is a wallet full of cash.
Another useful tip regarding money is to wear a money and a wallet. There’s a dual purpose to this: if you get mugged you can calmly hand over the wallet and carry on your holiday with minimum hassle. Also , you don't have have resort to your money belt, everytime you have to pay for something. (Great budget planner tool)
Bring an internet accessible device. Take your own device that can pick up wifi, like a smartphone or tablet. There is free wifi in places all around the world, and you quickly realize how often you need to tap in to things like bank accounts or travel bookings.
Pack a deck of playing cards. They always can come in handy and are often an ice breaker when traveling. You never know when you may experience a trip delay.
Always take out travel insurance and don’t rely on credit card insurance alone. It sounds obvious but lots of people don’t bother, and end up losing a lot of money when things go wrong.
Another great must have when traveling is Tiger Balm. It is a cure for a multitude of travellers' ailments. Not only soothes sore muscles after a lot of travelling but also works as an insect repellent.
Traveling is like life, it’s the journey that’s fun. Don’t just try to get to your destination as quickly as possible. Travel more slowly and you’ll discover more.Be wise and be wary, but try not to be paranoid. If you have street smarts ( remember, here is where your gay street smarts should kick in), don't be afraid to get lost in a foreign land. It might be the most rewarding experience.
Don’t waste energy getting upset with unseasoned travelers or when plans don't go 100% of the way you planned.Don't sweat the small stuff.
Never forget that it's your vacation and there's no wrong way to do it. There's no such thing as a must-see attraction. If you want to travel all the way to the ends of the earth and not go to that ancient ruin, that's your business. Do what feels fun to you.
Most importantly pack a great travelers attitude. Your way may not be the best way. Smile and be courteous. Also remember your manners and be open to your host destinations' way. Your in their country not yours!
